The Kitchen Garden

Arrival and time to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and get to know us and those also attending on the day.
10.20am -11am - Creating a Garden
How do you create a brand new garden, or improve one you already have. Practical considerations, layout and access. What are the practicalities of growing your own veg. Can you supply your own kitchen all year round and how much space are you going to need to do that.
11.30am - 12.30pm - The Garden Tour & The Greenhouse
We will start with a tour of the vegetable garden and the fruit beds. We will talk you through our layout, what works for us and the site around it. We will show you how to plan for windbreaks, shelter for growing veg. We have a look at the construction of the greenhouse where you can see how you yourself can create one for yourself expanding your vegetable growing area at home.
12.30pm - 1pm - Propagation Process
We will show you the propagation system we have in place and how we bring the plants on, what infasturture we have in place for starting the vegetables off.
1pm - 2pm - Lunch
A chance to have a sit down and enjoy lunch with us in the cabin, or if the weather is kind enjoy dining outside in the gardens.
Lunch will be soups with fresh bread and a selection of sandwiches supplied by Kath from Tyddyn Mawr Tea Room. Followed with tea, coffee and cake. Please tell us beforehand if you have any allergies or dietary requirements.
2pm - 3pm - Growing in the Garden
We will return to the veg garden to talk about various types of veg, how to know when to plant, how to know when to harvest and some advice about spacing and direct sowing over plug plants.
3pm - 4.30pm - Growing Outside the Vegetable Garden
A tour of the other gardens, the opportunities to grow within the borders, forest gardens and permaculture.
4.30pm - 5pm Q&A with a Cream Tea
You will receive a full print out of workshop notes to take home.
A Little Bit About Us
Emma works here full time, the smallholding is managed by her on a day to day basis. She runs the vegetable garden single handily providing much of what we eat fresh in the house. Emma has previously been a Graphic Designer, and worked in Garden Design. Now dedicating her time to creating a beautiful place were she can live a simple life. Emma deals with the admin and writes the blogs online. She encourages people to experience nature and to live a more sustainable life where possible. Emma has been growing vegetables for 10years now, and is currently working her way though an RHS level 2 and 3 horticulture course to consolidate her learning. She has been growing plants for sale for 7 years.
Steven works full time away from home. He is dedicated to his herd of goats and is passionate about his ability to create a goats milk soap product. The photography is all his. He loves to cook with what can be grown in the vegetable garden. Working on the smallholding is his passion and one day doing this full time is what drives us forward.
Booking A Place
Please email us direct with the date you would like to attend. We will send you details to make a BACS transfer, PapPal to email@example.com, alternatively you can ring us and we will process your payment via iZettle to take a payment via a card. We will ask that you pay a deposit of £20 per person with the final amount payable within the 7 days before you attend. You are welcome to pay the full amount if you wish.
Once your place(s) have been booked you will receive a email with a confirmation of your place(s) on the workshop. Once fully paid up you will receive the full welcome pack and directions to our home.
We do not accept groups bigger than 8 so that we can focus on providing you all with time to ask questions important to you and to allow everyone to get hands on where necessary.
We do not offer accommodation here however a number of smallholders and farms around us do. If you want to make a weekend of it please check out these places. Please note if you are unable to tie in a course on an advertised date with accommodation please email us. We are happy to put a workshop on for you on a date that suits. Please confirm this with us at the same time as arranging accommodation, Thank you.
Under 10's are free to attend. Any child aged 11-16 is £20.00. Please ensure you add all the names of the persons attending no matter how old to your booking form so we know exactly how many are attending.
What To Wear
Please bring suitable wet weather clothing, including wellies. We cannot predict the weather in advance, we are living on the boundary to the mountain range of Snowdonia and it can be subject to sudden changes. We will still be outside even if it rains. Also just incase bring sun cream and a hat should we have sun! You may want to consider a change of shoes for inside the cabin and for travelling home in, just in case.
If you'd like to bring a note book feel free however we will provide print outs of the day for you to keep. We welcome any photographs to be taken. Please enjoy yourself.
In the unlikely event that we need to cancel the workshop we will offer you an alternative set of dates to choose from, if these are not suitable to you we will refund you in full. However, should you need to cancel we request that you do so no less than 7 days notice to the course date. We are only a small business and we will have already placed the order for the food for that date. We reserve the right to make a full charge for any cancellations made with less than 7 days notice.
We are happy to accommodate smaller groups, if you as a couple or family are on holiday locally and you would like to spend the day with us please give me a call directly on 07766 028 202. We are able and happy to accommodate smaller groups but we need 3 days notice to arrange the catering.
Please be aware that every aspect to the day will be risk assessed and we will be covid compliant.
You will be asked to wash your hands when you arrive, hand sanitiser will be available throughout the day and there will be opportunities for you to wash your hands after each experience. If you wish to wear a mask when indoors then please feel free to do so. We want you to be comfortable with the day and to feel safe. Equally please do not attend if feeling unwell.
